Tom Young

Head of Environment and Consents – New Zealand

As the Head of Environment and Consents, Tom is responsible for the consenting workstreams of BlueFloat Energy’s projects in Aotearoa (New Zealand). He supports the project team in developing a design that will minimise the social and environmental impacts of our projects, while ensuring these projects are technically and economically feasible and can be executed.

Tom brings over 15 years’ experience in renewable energy and wider infrastructure development. Prior to joining BlueFloat Energy, Tom acted as New Zealand lead for the Infrastructure Sustainability Council, providing sustainability advisory services on various nationally significant infrastructure projects throughout New Zealand and Australia. During this time, Tom also served as Chair of the New Zealand Offshore Wind Working Group.

Before moving to New Zealand, Tom was the Environment and Consents Manager for Red Rock Energy, developing the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm off the East Coast of Scotland. He was responsible for managing the environmental and consenting team and all the activities relating to planning permissions, licences and consents for both the onshore and offshore elements of the project. He sat on a number of environmental working groups and led a range of stakeholder engagement activities. For 10 years prior to this, Tom held a number of advisory, consultant and developer positions in various community and commercial scale onshore renewable energy projects across the United Kingdom.

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
