Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)’s Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit kicked off in Melbourne today and we are delighted to have our APAC team attending and contributing to the event with insightful presentations:

Nick Sankey, Country Manager Australia, participated in the panel discussion on floatingwind in the APAC region and stressed the importance of fit-for-purpose regulatory framework that would provide long-term visibility to offshore wind developers and the supply chain: “State government commitment to offshore wind industry development is crucial for nurturing the floating offshore wind supply chain and supporting developers like us as we advance our plans for building an offshore wind industry. Setting clear targets and providing regional support is vital to steer the industry, justify investments, and provide much needed development clarity”.

Raymund Pascual, the Philippines Country Manager at BlueFloat Energy, provided an overview of offshore wind development in the Philippines. He stated “BlueFloat Energy is at the forefront of offshore wind development in the Philippines, having secured four offshore Wind Energy Service Contracts (WESCs) following thorough site assessment. With a potential capacity of 7.6 GW to deployed in areas with world-class wind resource, we look forward to contributing towards sustainable economic growth of the country, in line with The World Bank Group’s vision presented in its Offshore Wind Roadmap for the Philippines. Offshore wind is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the Philippines’ decarbonization goals, and we are committed to helping the government unlock this opportunity. ”

Nathan Turner, BlueFloat Energy Country Manager for New Zealand, discussed the potential of floating wind in Aotearoa. “The path to a sustainable energy future in New Zealand is paved with ambitious reforms. Embracing our natural resources for decarbonization and economic growth, large-scale renewable generation and green hydrogen are key to realizing these goals. We applaud the Government’s dedication to regulatory development by 2024, providing certainty as we work towards establishing an offshore wind industry in the country, ”  said Nathan.
